The Mandralor are a highly religious race that worhips "Lord Order" and Mandrala, his greatest prophet.  It is said the prophet Mandrala lived for over 1000 years.  This is unknown, but it is known historically that the prophet was alive during the formation of the Union, and apparently played a critical role in it's formation.  It is also know that the "great prophet" was killed during a battle with the Ignus.

The Mandralor spend their entire lives training for battle, but their religious teachings do not allow them to enter into battle "unless to confront an agent of Lord Chaos".  The Mandralor are constantly vigilant, and have never been known to be capricious.  This makes there recent erratic behavior all the more puzzling to their Union allies.
